Cuyamaca College Welcomes Olympian Chris Benard as New Head Women's Track & Field Coach

Cuyamaca College is thrilled to announce the appointment of two-time Olympian Chris Benard as the new Head Coach of the Women's Track & Field team. Chris, who has represented the United States on the world stage, brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and a winning mindset to our program.
Joining Chris in this exciting new chapter for Cuyamaca College's Track & Field team are two exceptional athletes who have achieved greatness in their respective disciplines. Laulauga Tausaga, a world champion gold medalist, and Rolland 'Jay' Slade, a decorated Team USA Paralympic guide-runner, will serve as key members of the coaching staff. Together, they bring a unique blend of talent, expertise, and inspiration that will undoubtedly propel our athletes to new heights.
Chris Benard's illustrious career as a two-time Olympian in the triple jump speaks to his dedication and passion for the sport. His leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of our Women's Track & Field team, and his presence is sure to inspire both current and future student-athletes. Chris also brings his experience as a two-time 3C2A state community college champion while attending Riverside City College, and a PCAC 12 champion, school record holder for Arizon State University.
Laulauga Tasanga's accomplishments as a world champion gold medalist in the shot put and discus throw add a powerful dynamic to our coaching staff. Her experience and drive will be invaluable in developing the next generation of champions at Cuyamaca College. Laulauga is a former NCAA discus champion and graduate of the University of Iowa.
Rolland 'Jay' Slade, as a Paralympic guide-runner for Team USA, brings a unique perspective and a deep understanding of overcoming challenges. His role in our program will help foster an inclusive and supportive environment where all athletes can thrive. Jay is a former Cuyamaca Coyote with sprint record marks still currently in Cuyamaca College Men's Track & Field All-Time best list.
