Cuyamaca College's Dean of Athletics announced the new era of Women's Basketball excellence will start with the hiring of Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood.

There were many outstanding individuals that shared their passion and interest in being our next Head Coach. Coach Wiley-Gatewood comes to Cuyamaca College with a long and storied player and coaching history. Native to San Diego, Sa'de made her mark at the California and National HS ranks. Sa'de is best known for being a skilled and fierce player with overflowing leadership skills. From HS, she went to Tennessee to play for Hall of Fame Coach, Pat Summit then transferred to Maryland where she concluded her storied collegiate career. Sa'de continues to give back to the sport in which she loves lending her expertise to various groups and organizations.

Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood brings an unparalleled blend of experience and passion to Cuyamaca College as the head coach of the Women's Basketball Team. With a basketball career spanning over 28 years, Sa'de transitioned from a celebrated Division I athlete to a Hall of Fame coach, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to the sport and its growth.

Educational and Playing Career: 

Sa'de's journey in basketball began with her standout performances as a point guard at the University of Tennessee and the University of Maryland, where she was recognized for her leadership, skill, and dedication to the game. Her college career set the stage for her contributions to basketball, both on and off the court.

Coaching and Leadership:

Following her playing career, Sa'de made a seamless transition into coaching, where her impact has been profound. She founded Hoop Blessings LLC, a program dedicated to the holistic development of young athletes, emphasizing leadership, personal growth, and academic achievement alongside athletic excellence.

Throughout her coaching career, Sa'de has led teams to multiple CIF Championships, earning her the NFHS California Coach of the Year and an induction into the Southern California Hall of Fame. Her coaching philosophy centers on hard work, dedication, and teamwork, aiming to prepare athletes for success in all aspects of their lives.

Sa'de is dedicated to creating an inclusive and empowering environment for all athletes, with a special focus on mentoring historically underrepresented and first-generation college students.
