PREVIEW

This Friday, the men's and women's cross country teams compete for a conference title at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Championships.

The runners will start and finish at Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay, with the women's race scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the men's race set to start at 3:15 p.m.

The men's team comes in ranked as the #5 squad in Southern California. Their stiffest competition will come from San Bernardino Valley, who is currently ranked #1.

"Both are among the best teams in the state," says women's head coach Thom Hunt. "It should be a very competitive head to head competition as there are no other schools currently at the caliber of these two."

While Steven Lepe has set the pace for the Coyotes so far this season, he he's had plenty of company from his teammates.

"Bryan Alvarado and Kibrom Elias are right on his heels," says Coach Hunt.

On the women's side, the field is much more balanced.

"San Bernardino Valley is probably the favorite on the women's side too," says Coach Hunt. "However, it is very different because there are many more schools with an opportunity to win."

Lexie Thiros has been the number one runner at each event for the Coyotes this year, with Annette Jimenez following close on her heels.

"Both are very dedicated and talented athletes that have prepared very well for our upcoming championship season," says Coach Hunt.

After the PCAC Championships, the Coyotes have two more possible meets. The So Cal Championships will be held on Friday, November 4, at Irvine Regional Park. And the State Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 9, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
