Women's Golf Finishes Third at State Tournament

The Coyote women's golf team wrapped up their postseason run with a third place finish at the state tournament.

Leanna Mena led the team with a 76 in Sunday's opening round, and Melanie Stark went low with a 77 in round two on Monday. Jule Loibl placed second for the Coyotes each day, her 155 cumulative score matching Stark for the overall team lead.

Loibl and Stark finished tied for 9th place in the individual standings, with Mena's 161 putting her close behind in 14th.

Kenna Caricato earned the 4th spot for the Coyotes, with a two-day total of 176. Neyla Buil Macarty was next at 195, followed by Sara Rott at 215.

Sierra College took home the title thanks to a scorching team total of 294 in the second round, after their opening day score of 319 had left them in 3rd. Santa Barbara City College placed 2nd with 621, with Cuyamaca next at 647.

Santa Barbara's Carolin Chang claimed top individual honors, with a tiebreaker giving her the win after she and Sierra's Nao Bando posted identical scores of 141.

Cuyamaca's third place finish caps a trio of successful postseason events. The squad placed second at the SoCal Championships after claiming the PCAC league title.

And the future remains bright Cuyamaca, as Stark and Macarty are the only two sophomores. With Loibl, Mena, Caricato, and Rott all due back, the Coyotes look like a good bet to get back to the state tournament in 2017.
