SBVC Shuts Down Cuyamaca to Remain Unbeaten

The San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team continued its hot start to the season, outlasting Cuyamaca 1-0 in a nonconference game Friday night inside SBVC Stadium.

While the Wolverines have been able to score early in their other home games this season, it took SBVC about a half hour to finally get on the board.

SBVC worked the ball deep into the Cuyamaca box, where Ernest Lomeli fired a shot on goal. His shot was parried away by goalkeeper Isaias Reyes, but the rebound fell to a charging Jose Garcia. He tucked the ball into a wide open corner of the net to give the Wolverines the only goal they would need.

From there, it was the SBVC defense and ball control that frustrated the Coyotes. Cuyamaca was only able to fire three shots toward the goal in the second half, with Jeffery Loera forced to make one of his four saves in the second 45 minutes.

SBVC will play its next two games at home this coming week - closing out a stretch of four straight games at home - facing Los Angeles City at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and then Santa Ana at 4 p.m. Friday.
