Freshman Robby Robinson recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks in the Knights' 73-54 home victory over Cuyamaca. Nashom Carter added nine points and five assists.
The win was the Knights' 16th straight over Cuyamaca (3-17, 0-2 PCAC South) and the 30th consecutive PCAC South victory as they improved to 11-9 overall and 2-0 in conference. City's last loss to Cuyamaca was on January 29, 2010.
The Knights had a 10-point lead at halftime and went ahead 45-33 five minutes into the second half. After a timeout, Cuyamaca, led by Frankie Gutierrez' 15 points and 10 assists, rolled off eight consecutive points to cut City's lead down to 45-41 with 11:48 remaining.
City, however, responded with a quick 7-0 run that included two Carter layups and a Joseph Riley 3-pointer. The Knights kept their foot on the gas and that 7-0 spurt turned into a 15-2 burst that gave them a 60-43 lead and complete control with 7:30 left.
The Knights had 17 offensive rebounds, including seven from Robinson, which led to an 18-0 advantage on second chance points. City also had a 25-14 edge on points off turnovers after forcing Cuyamaca into 20 miscues.
City will play at No. 8 Southwestern on Friday at 5 p.m. The Knights and Jaguars met back on November 25 in the championship game of the Palomar tournament with Southwestern coming away with an 84-78 overtime win.
