COD Men’s Soccer holds on for tie with Coyotes, 2-2

COD (3-2-2) once again faced off in a battle of epic proportions, that featured a very exciting back-and-forth and had a bunch of action as the Roadrunners held off the Cuyamaca Coyotes of El Cajon (0-1-4), 2-2.

Freshman goal keeper Luis Lucio (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) had his hands full early as the Coyotes took an early 1-0 lead in the 6th minute. Desert would tie the game in the 43rd minute on a goal from sophomore forward Vasilios Syrengelas (El Centro Central Union) who nailed a free kick from about 25 yards out to tie the game at 1-1. In the 75th minute, the Roadrunners took a short-lived lead on a penalty kick conversion from freshman forward Jose Calderon, Jr. (Thermal Desert Mirage).

The Roadrunners played the Cuyamaca Coyotes of El Cajon for the first time in program history in 1990 and have a 9-17-7 record against the Coyotes. Desert has a 7-7-3 record in Palm Desert. The next game for Desert is on Friday, September 16th, when Desert will hit the road to face the Vikings of Long Beach City College. The Roadrunners first played Long Beach City in 1979 and have an 8-3-1 overall record against the Vikings and a 0-3-1 record in Long Beach. The next home game for the Roadrunners is on Friday, September 30th, when Desert will host the Los Angeles Mission Eagles of Sylmar at 4p in Palm Desert. The Roadrunners first played LA Mission in 1993 and have an overall record of 1-2-1 against the Eagles and a 1-1 record at home.
